Five Hermosa Beach residents have qualified as candidates for two city council seats on the November 4 ballot, City Clerk Myra Maravilla announced Wednesday.
The seats are currently held by Councilmembers Mike Detoy and Justin Massey. Detoy was first elected in 2020, and is seeking reelection.
Massey was elected in 2015 and again in 2020. He is not seeking a third term.

Two candidates for City Treasurer have also qualified for the November 5 ballot, Maravilla announced on Wednesday.

Incumbent treasurer Karen Siemensma Nowicki, a CPA, will seek a third full term. She was first elected in November 2013 when incumbent David Cohen vacated the treasurer’s seat mid-term. She was reelected in 2015 and 2020. Challenger David Pedersen is chair of the Hermosa Beach Planning Commission and a financial planner.

Challenging Detoy, a Riverside Fire Captain, in the race for the two open council seats in November are: former councilmember Michael Keegan (Council 2001-09), and founder of Manhattan Bread and Bagel; businessman and Parks and Rec Commissioner Jani Lange; businessman and musician Brian Sheil; and former national television news producer and Easy Reader reporter Elka Worner.
