
Athletes from local high schools were honored recently for their achievements during the spring season by being named to All-CIF teams in their respective divisions.
Many of the selections helped three area teams capture CIF championships in baseball, softball and boys volleyball.
Baseball: Redondo coach Jeff Baumback was one of three Sea Hawks honored by the the CIF as he was named Championship Coach after Redondo captured the CIF-SS Division 3 title and i8ts first CIF baseball championship in the 100-year history of the program.
Senior third baseman Brady Dorn and junior pitcher/outfielder Cooper Gallion were named to the team after leading Redondo to a share of the Bay League championship and a 29-7 record.
Dorn, a four-year varsity player for the Sea Hawks, was named the Bay League Most Outstanding Player batting .393 with two home runs, 11 doubles, 14 stolen bases, 35 RBI and 40 runs scored.
As a pitcher, Gallion notched three wins in the playoffs finishing the season with an 8-1 record and a 1.36 ERA. At the plate, he batted. 420 with three home runs, 21 doubles and 46 RBI, the most of any player in Divisions 1-6.
Mira Costa senior pitcher Michael Rumpp helped the Mustangs (23-8) win a share of the Bay League championship posting a 7-2 record and a 1.02 ERA. He struck out 68 batters in 62 innings.
El Segundo senior shortstop Lars Nootbaar also made the All-CIF Division 3 team after helping the Eagles (22-10) to a share of the Ocean League crown. Nootbaar batted .438 with eight home runs, 27 RBI and 40 runs scored and was named co-MVP of the Ocean League.

Division 4 runner-up South Torrance (24-9) landed two players on the All-CIF team. Pitcher Drake Pingel posted an 11-3 record with a 2.10 ERA striking out 95 batters in 93 innings, earning the senior Pioneer League MVP honors.
Senior infielder Kawika Hubbell was a sparkplug as the Spartan’s leadoff hitter, batting.350 with 14 RBI and 24 runs scored.
Softball: Three players represented the Bay League on the All-CIF Division 3 team.led by two-time selection Kat Ung of Redondo.
Ung helped Redondo (22-8) to its first three-peat as Bay League champion in more than 20 years while earning league MVP honors. The junior southpaw was stellar as a pitcher and hitter, posting a 13-3 record with a 1.48 ERA and 120 strikeouts in the circle while batting .418 with 11 RBI at the plate.
Mira Costa shortstop Brittany Werre batted .519 with four home runs, 13 doubles and 20 RBI while leading the Mustangs to a 29-0 record.
Peninsula shortstop Brooke Vines also made the Division 3 team after breaking several school hitting records and leading the Panthers (18-14) to a third-place finish in the Bay League.
In Division 4, Don Glavich earned Champion Coach honors after leading Torrance (27-9) to the division title with no seniors on the squad.
Tartar’s junior pitcher Marissa Moreno recorded a 17-6 record with a 1.34 ERA and a school record 264 strikeouts. At the plate, she batted .448 with seven home runs, 36 RBI and 12 doubles.
Torrance shortstop Jade Arslanian also made the team after the junior batted .434 with 29 RBIS and a single-season school record 10 home runs.
Also named to the Division 4 team were North Torrance junior center fielder Lauren Sabihon (.429, 25 RBI, 4 homers) and El Segundo junior center fielder Allison Tatnall (.436, 29 RBI, 4 homers).

Boys Volleyball: Mira Costa senior outside hitter Blake Markland and Loyola senior middle blocker Kyle Jasuta of Manhattan Beach.were selected to the All-CIF Division 1 team.
Markland helped Bay League champion Mira Costa (25-7) reach the semifinals of the CIF-SS Division 1 and Southern California Regional playoffs.
Jasuta was instrumental in Loyola (30-3) reaching the CIF-SS Division 1 semifinals and the championship match of the Southern California Regionals. The Cubs finished the season ranked No. 2 in the nation in the MaxPreps poll with two of their three losses coming to Huntington Beach, the nation’s top-ranked team.
In Division 3, El Segundo junior middle blocker Steven Moye was named Player of the Year after leading the Eagles (26-8) to the CIF championship..
Joining him on the All-CIF team were teammates senior libero Nolan Sharpe and sophomore middle blocker Joe Kelly. ER
