When it comes to sporting events of questionable taste, the Annual Jim Cole Memorial Bowling Tournament ranks right up there with the Hermosa Beach Ironman and the Manhattan Beach Six Man Volleyball tournament. But good intentions, accompanied by a check make for short memories and the Jim Cole bowlers have raised a lot of money. The charity was established 16 years ago in memory of Manhattan Beach resident Jim Cole, who died in a swimming accident in 1995. Since then, the bowling tournament has raised over $100,000 for academic scholarships. Over 100 bowlers participated in this year’s tournament held April 30 at the El Dorado Bowl in Westchester.
