In early results from Tuesday’s election, Jim Light leads the race for mayor, Joy Ford has a strong lead for city attorney and all measures are passing.
The first count represents 4,556 ballots, those received by last Friday in the all-mail election.
Light, the appointed mayor running for a full term, leads City Councilman Nils Nehrenheim 1,816 votes to 1,190. Joan Irvine holds third at 459 votes.
For Redondo Beach city attorney, Ford leads Steve Colin 3,107 to 945. In the District One city council race, Rolf Strutzenberg’s 475 votes puts him ahead of Brad Waller (441) and Darrin King (58). For District Two, Chadwick Castle leads Lou Burke, 618 to-202. District Four Councilman Zein Obagi, Jr., paces his re-election bid with 502 votes to Terri Hunt’s 188.
Each of the five ballot measures are passing at more than 80 percent.
The city has 44,491 registered voters. The next vote count is March 13, to include all ballots postmarked by March 4 and received after election day.
To win a race, a candidate must reach 50 % plus one vote. As of now, Light has 44% of the total for mayor and Nehrenheim 29%.
Ranked-choice runoff, if needed, will also be done March 13, with expected final results announced at 2 p.m.
For the Redondo Unified school board, unopposed candidates Dan Elder and Rachel Silverman Nemeth will resume office for their second term, joined by Hanh Archer, who also ran unopposed to succeed Strutzenberg. ER
