Unidentified jogger found dead on Hermosa Beach Greenbelt early Monday

While taking her morning jog, an unidentified woman found an unresponsive man wearing jogging clothes on the Greenbelt in Hermosa Beach.

“He was already deceased,” said Hermosa Beach Police Department Captain Tommy Thompson. “He was very cold and had been there a bit.”

Police describe the man as 40 to 50 with dark hair.

“It’s still unknown how he died, we’re not sure if it was a heart attack,” Thompson said. “But there were no signs of foul play.”

He was found around 6:30 a.m., wearing running gear and an  iPod nano . Thompson said that when he was found the music was still playing, and police on the scene said he was listening to the Eagles.

“It’s sad because you think that exercise should help you, but in this case it may not have helped him,” Thompson said, adding that he has still not been identified. “Nobody’s called in a missing person. I’d assume somebody is wondering where he is if he didn’t show up to work.”

Thompson on said that the man didn’t have a cell phone or any identification with him.

“Even if you go running you need to have ID on you,” Thompson said. “If you’re in the hospital because you fell and got hurt, we have no idea who you are.”
