Kelly Slater introduces “the perfect wave” machine

A few years ago, Body Glove’s Robbie Meistrell made a proposal for a revamped Seaside Lagoon in Redondo Beach — one that would be equipped with new technology to produce a wave that new surfers could learn on and advanced surfers could practice with. The proposal didn’t move forward in Redondo Beach, but today the surf industry is abuzz with the sudden appearance of footage released by the legendary surfer Kelly Slater showing what appears to be wave machine technology utterly perfected. Slater and his compadres reportedly spent ten years working on this project, and his Kelly Slater Wave Company suddenly released a video showing the fruits of their labor without fanfare this morning.
“I’m 100 percent positive our team has built the most perfect wave that anyone has ever made,” an ecstatic Slater says in the video, minutes after witnessing a perfect barrel rolling towards him 110 miles from the ocean. “It’s a freak of…technology.”
