One resident and a second staff member of The Kensington Redondo Beach assisted living facility have tested positive for COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, according to the company.

In a letter to families dated March 18, Kensington Redondo director Robert May stated that one resident and a second staff member have tested positive.

Kensington is awaiting test results on five other staff members and two more residents. The resident who tested positive has been hospitalized; the staffer has been placed on paid leave.

A statement provided by a Kensington spokesperson said that the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has been working with the facility to help identify potential COVID-19 cases.

“We are also pleased that we have received additional supplies to help keep our residents and staff safe, such as protective masks, gowns and gloves,” May said in the statement.

According to the letter to families, LA County staff are working with Kensington to ensure proper protocols are in place. Kensington staff members are also having their temperatures taken and being checked for symptoms of COVID-19 as they report for work.

On March 16, Kensington released a statement indicating that one staff member had tested positive for the disease, and that two residents had been hospitalized with symptoms.
