King Harbor Holiday Boat Parade honors First Responders

Honoring our Storm First Responders

The King Harbor Holiday Boat Parade on Saturday, December 9, honored the First Responders who protected the harbor during last year’s pounding storms. Public Works, Fire, and Police Department employees were among the guests at the annual holiday barbecue. Other guests included Assemblyman Al Muratsuchi, Redondo Beach Councilmembers Todd Loewenstein and Nils Nehrenheim, and Redondo Police Chief Joe Hoffman.

The parade was presented by King Harbor Yacht Club and the Port Royal Yacht Club, with support from the King Harbor Association and the Portofino Hotel, and sponsorship from the Chevron Corporation. The Redondo Pier Association sponsored a Holiday Concert before the parade.

The Best Overall Award went to “Kielana,” skippered by Aaron Tavakoli. Other awardees were Flying Fiche, skippered by Julie Coll for Best Costume and Music Flying Fiche; Just Right, skippered by Paul Zambriski for Best Power under 34; and Triple Net, skippered by Mike Grannis, for Best Power over 34.

Proceeds will benefit three youth charities in the harbor, the King Harbor Youth Foundation, Waterfront Education, and the Santa Monica Bay Maritime Training. ER
