The Manhattan Beach Fire Department has issued a statement regarding the death of a swimmer at the LA County Lifeguards annual training certification at Mira Costa High School this morning:

At approximately 7:00 a.m. this morning at Mira Costa High School,  LA County Lifeguards were using the pool for annual certification of their personnel.  An adult swimmer, who is not a student or staff member was noticed to be in distress and having difficulty.  LA County Lifeguards pulled the adult swimmer from the pool and began lifesaving measures.  MB Fire and Paramedics also responded to treat the swimmer, who was transported to Little Company of Mary Hospital.  Although attended by hospital staff, the swimmer passed away.  The cause has not been determined and no name will be released until family notifications have been properly made.
