Redondo won its first Bay League title in four years Tuesday with a 48-37 road victory over Palos Verdes. The Sea Hawks (19-8, 9-0) are ranked No. 11 in the CIF Southern Section Division 1AA poll and will host Leuzinger Thursday at 6 p.m. in the league finale. Palos Verdes entered the contest ranked No. 6 in Division 3A.

Riki Murakami paced Redondo with 12 points and Ashiana Antar scored 10 points for the surging Sea Hawks.
Redondo earned at least a share of the Bay League title with a 54-38 win at West (No. 8 in Division 3AA) last Friday. The Sea Hawks were led by Michelle Lowery who scored 18 points and grabbed 17 rebounds in the victory. Rachel Scarlett added eight points and Murakami and Antar each scored seven points for Redondo.
Mira Costa (17-9, 7-2) defeated Peninsula (12-14, 2-7) 43-31 Tuesday and will enter the post season next week as the Bay League’s second team. Peninsula was ranked No. 13 in Division 3AA.
Kylie Nakamine recorded 14 points, six steals and five assists while Camille Mills added 10 points and five steals for the Mustangs who host Palos Verdes Thursday at 6 p.m.

Boys Basketball
Redondo (13-13, 5-4) will attempt to earn a second-place tie with Leuzinger (17-8, 6-3) when the Sea Hawks host the Olympians Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

With its 53-52 victory over host Palos Verdes Tuesday, Redondo secured third place and the final playoff spot from the Bay League. Martyre Demarco had 23 points and six rebounds and Jacquise Bates added 16 points for the Sea Hawks.
Mira Costa’s season of being on the losing end of close finishes continued Tuesday when the Mustangs fell to visiting Peninsula 52-48 in overtime. Bay League champion Peninsula (24-1, 9-0) increased its winning streak to 22 games and is ranked No. 21 in CIF Division 2A.
Elliott Ozer led Mira Costa (9-16, 2-7) with 21 points, Thomas Johnson added 12 points, 15 rebounds and four blocks and Cole Feaster chipped in with eight points and five rebounds for the Mustangs who host Palos Verdes (14-11, 2-7) Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the season finale for both teams. Palos Verdes is ranked No. 12 in CIF Division 4AA.
Mira Costa entered the game after a 73-68 loss at Leuzinger last Friday when Ozer scored 25 points and Johnson recorded 20 points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots.
Girls Soccer
Injury-plagued Mira Costa (13-7-2, 4-5) lost for the fifth time in six games Tuesday falling to host Peninsula (11-5-2, 6-3) 2-1. Taylor Foland scored the lone goal for the Mustangs who were kept in the game by another strong performance by goalkeeper Dana Eisenhauer.
If the Mustangs expect to make the playoffs, they will need help in addition to an upset win over Bay League champion Palos Verdes (19-2-3, 8-0-1) when the two teams meet at Palos Verdes Thursday at 3 p.m.
Palos Verdes is ranked No. 1 in the CIF Division 2 poll but was dealt its first blemish in league play on Tuesday when Redondo tied the Sea Kings 4-4.
Redondo hosts Leuzinger Thursday while second-place West (9-9-4, 4-4-1) visits Peninsula. Playoff brackets for boys and girls soccer will be announced Monday and available at www.cifss.org.
Boys Soccer
With one game remaining, Mira Costa (12-3-4, 5-2-2) kept its slim chance for a Bay League title alive after a 4-0 win over visiting Peninsula (2-12-4, 0-6-3) on Tuesday.

Charlie Pitts had two goals and Joe Valenzuela and Alex de la Espriella scored once each for the Mustangs who host first-place Palos Verdes (18-3-4, 6-1-2) Thursday at 3 p.m. Mira Costa defeated Palos Verdes, the fifth-ranked team in CIF Division 1, 1-0 in the first league meeting between the two teams.
Defending champion West (12-6-5, 6-3) will retain its title with a win coupled with either a Mira Costa-Palos Verdes tie or a Mira Costa win. A Mira Costa victory and a West loss will earn the Mustangs the league championship.
Wrestling
With top three finishes at the Bay League Championships held at West High School, 16 wrestlers from the Beach Cities have qualified for the CIF Central Division Individual Championships to be held Friday and Saturday, Feb. 18-19 at Colony High School in Ontario. Action begins at 11 a.m. each day.
Led by Bay League champions Joey Beck (135) and Justin Tam (152), Mira Costa will be represented by Kit Murphy (3rd – 112), Jake Shapiro (3rd – 125), Tajee Mobley (2nd – 140), Erik Kreager (3rd – 160), Ian Goodbody (3rd – 171) and Jake Rosenfeld (3rd – 189).
Redondo’s Matt Ulizio captured the 275-pound division and will join fellow Sea Hawks Nico Madrid (3rd – 1-3), Raymond Gandara (2nd – 112), Brent Bowles (3rd – 119), Tommy Thompson (3rd – 130), David Tavieso (3rd – 135), Brennan Abramowitz (3rd – 145), Jake Harris (2nd – 160) and Alex Maldonado (3rd – 215) in the individual championships.
