Letters: Hermosa Beach School District

Thank you to the numerous community members with the courage to write letters to the paper concerning the Hermosa Beach School District.

I watched the school board meeting where they decided who they were going to hand out “pink slips” to within the district due to lack of funding. At that same meeting the board miraculously found $65,000 dollars to pay a consultant firm in regards to a Parcel Tax. Isn’t that enough money to pay for some of those “pink slip” positions?

There has been so much wasted time spent with meetings and I agree with Brad Commiso “the people were talking to deaf ears”

Some facts: The HBCSD has been threatening that their doors will be closing. That is just not right. They used to threaten about the school becoming insolvent within 2 years. That was over 1 1/2 years ago.

The district has not notified the California Department of Education (CDE) that it will be bankrupt in 2 years.
HBCSD was not included on the CDE website list of 13 school districts that may be at risk of closing its doors in the next 2 years. The HBCSD is not even on the CDE watch list.

Here we go again spending school monies for consultants for a Parcel Tax and election fees along with private monies to help support a campaign.

All these monies would be better spent on teachers’ salaries and minimizing the reduction/discontinuation (pink slips) of the 10.7 positions proposed and approved at the Feb. 8th school board meeting.
