Los Angeles County Ocean Lifeguard Tandis Morgan used to bring two suits to the beach. One was for lounging, and the other for charging in the water. “But I was never one for just laying out on the sand, I had to be in the water!” she said. Morgan is the 2007 and 2008 international USLA Iron Woman champion and knows how a suit should perform. The cute bikinis would come off in the water and the functional suits were ugly. So 10 years ago she began making her own suits on her mom’s 1965 Elna sewing machine.
The result was a comfortable suit that looked hot and  stayed on while surfing and swimming. Other lifeguards wanted their own, so she and her older brother Tyler, who is a Los Angeles County Ocean Lifeguard Specialist, began manufacturing the suits in El Segundo, their hometown. Their business, Tiem, is named after their shared initials, which they sewed onto each suit in the early days. Tops and bottoms are each $30. The suits are available at Tiemsurf.com
