

More than 200 participants of all ages kicked off Father’s Day at the Manhattan Beach Pier Sunday by competing in the annual Summer Manhattan Beach 5K.
The out-and-back course along the water’s edge celebrates the Summer Solstice and is held at the lowest tide of the season.
Phillip Gonzalez, 37, of Arcadia claimed the title with a time of 16 minutes, 20 seconds beating out a pair of 20-year-old runners.
Alejandro Montesinos, of Henderson, NV finished second at 16:58, just ahead of Brendon Cohen, of Redondo Beach who crossed the finish line at 17:13.
Audrey Stansbury, 35, of Hermosa Beach won the women’s crown with a time of 21:47. Leslie Cohen, 58, of Santa Monica finished second at 23:22 and Katie Brody, 27, of Los Angeles placed third at 24:37.
Males winning their age group included: Robert Solis (11-14, Torrance, 23:45), Jacob Helfgott (15-19, Redondo Beach, 18:19), Montesinos (20-24), Ben Moores (25-29, Bath, 19:18), Matthew Parlee (30-34, Lawndale, 19:17), Gonzalez (35-39), Garry Martin (40-44, Hawthorne, 21:37), Robert Guillen (45-49, Lakewood, 22:09), Scott Atkinson (50-54, Hermosa Beach, 23:48), Jim Newman (55-59, Manhattan Beach, 22:15), Ken Taylor (60-64, Redondo Beach, 27:18, Peter Joyce (65-69, Manhattan Beach, 25:10), Ward Wright (70-74, Redondo Beach, 52:59) and Dick Windishar (80-89, Manhattan Beach, 37:25).

Females finishing first in their age group were: Samantha Cohen (11-14, Santa Monica, 25:42), Sonia Desaielamle (15-19, 26:42), Kelly Grove (20-24, Tiburon, 28:00), Brody (25-29), Carmen Gutierrez (30-34, Pacoima, 28:11), Stansbury (35-39), Tracy Mausser (40-44, Hermosa Beach, 26:04), Kari Nakama (45-49, Hermosa Beach, 32:01), Lynn Jaeger (50-54, Manhattan Beach, 27:21), Cohen (55-59) and Leigh Daltorio (60-64, Redondo Beach, 29:19).
In the Kid’s 1K Dash, Shane Mausser, 9, of Hermosa Beach captured the title with a time of 2:42. Taylor Yang, 7, of Pasadena won the Little Kid’s 400-meter race posting a time of 1:40 and in the Crawler’s 50-meter event, Caroline Huang, 4, of Redondo Beach edged her 1-year-old sister Julia by one second with a time of 26 seconds.
