New undergrounding

district is formed

The City Council unanimously approved the formation of a new utility undergrounding district Tuesday night after petitions were submitted from residents indicating that over 50 percent favored the district. District 4 will now go to an official vote throughout the neighborhood, which consists of 167 parcels located between Valley Drive, 1st Street, Sepulveda, and Boundary Place.

Director of Public Works Stephanie Katsouleas noted that the overall assessment for the district is $7.2 million, actually a few hundred thousand dollars less than when a district (which never proceeded) was formed in 2005.

“We are really, really happy about that,” Katsouleas said.

Assessment ranges for property owners in District 4 are $28,311.39 to $127,342.41, with an average of $43,443.11. Ballots will be collected up until a Jan. 7 public hearing at which the undergrounding will either go forward or not, depending on voting results.
