Police are searching for a man who over the last few weeks has allegedly exposed his genitals to store employees, including a minor, in two local stores after trying on women’s clothing, authorities said.
The man, who police said called himself “Jerry,” tried on women’s swimwear and shorts in two Diane’s Beachwear stores and a Super Sports store before manipulating his clothing in two of the stores so as to expose himself to female employees.
“He’s got a different story each time,” said Manhattan Beach Police Detective Michael Rosenberger. “At one place, he comes in and says he’s an exotic dancer. Then he tries on various outfits and manipulates his shorts to expose his buttocks and genitalia.”
“It appeared he did it quite intentionally,” he added. “It was not an accident.”
On Feb. 25, the man entered Super Sports, 2930 N. Sepulveda Blvd., at roughly 3 p.m., tried on swim suits, and asked a 23-year-old female employee how he looked in them — specifically, how his buttocks looked — according to Rosenberger. He then left.
Though the man did not expose himself at the sports store, his comments and actions made the employee uncomfortable enough to call police said.
“He just walked out the door,” she added.
Police believe the same man at 5:30 p.m. the same day tried on women’s shorts and swim suits at Diane’s in the Manhattan Village Mall, 3292 N. Sepulveda Blvd., before asking a 24-year-old female employee how he looked and shifting the clothes to expose himself. Martin said the man left the store and returned a few minutes later to inquire about men’s clothing stores in the area.
On March 6, employees from Diane’s in downtown Manhattan Beach, 1125 Manhattan Ave., reported a similar incident from three days before. Employees told police that a man — who police believe to be the same from the earlier incidents — came in at 8:30 p.m., tried on swim wear, exposed himself to a 17-year-old employee and left.
No customers were present in the stores during any of the incidents nor was any usable surveillance footage obtained.
The suspect is described by police as a white male, 5 ft. 8 in., average build, clean cut and clean-shaven and in his early to mid 20s.
Anyone with information regarding these or similar incidents is asked to call Det. Michael Rosenberger at (310) 802-5127. ER
