The Manhattan Beach Fire Department on Saturday received a $5,000 grant from Lockton Insurance Brokers and Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company as part of a nationwide philanthropic program to promote community education programs. The grant will be used to purchase new equipment for firefighters to teach local residents about safely and effectively using fire extinguishers.

“Many people have fire extinguishers in their homes, but rarely do they have an opportunity to practice using them,” MBFD Chief Robert Espinosa said in a statement. “This donation will help us bridge that gap … and [we] believe this training will help make our community safer.”
