Elderly woman

killed in car accident

An elderly woman died Monday afternoon when the car in which she was a passenger collided with a truck on Marine Avenue. Her husband of six decades was the car ’s driver. According to Manhattan Beach Police Department reports, the accident occured at 12:17 p.m. at the intersection of Marine and Cedar Way, near Manhattan Village mall. According to witnesses who spoke to traffic investigators on scene, the car, a Honda Accord, failed to stop for a red signal while exiting the mall onto Marine. The car hit a Ford F-150 truck, which was turning onto Cedar Way from Marine. The truck’s driver escaped with minor injuries, and the driver of the car moderate injuries. But the driver’s wife died after being transported to a nearby trauma center.

“It’s horrible,” said MBPD Sgt. Tim Zins. “After being married 60-odd years, I’m sure he’s not going to be very well after this. It’s just tragic.”

Police have not yet released any names, pending notification of next of kin. Accident investigators will not reach any conclusions for weeks.
