Three people were arrested Tuesday night after an attempted traffic stop turned into a police chase, police said Wednesday.
While patrolling a residential area around 6:48 p.m., a MBPD officer tried to stop a car with no license plates. The car sped off, leading the officer to follow. During the chase, two people got out of the car and ran.
A multi-agency search began for the two who fled, while the original officer continued to follow the car. Near the intersection of 12th Street and Meadows Avenue, the car stopped and its driver and passenger were arrested.
One of the suspects on foot was found in a trashcan while a Hawthorne Police Department helicopter and a K-9 team searched the 1300 block of 18th Street. That person was arrested. The other person wasn’t located.
While investigating, officers found a police scanner tuned to MBPD frequency.
The three suspects, who were arrested on suspicion of evasion, burglary, conspiracy, delay or obstruction of a peace officer and possession of burglary tools, were Matthew Dale Lofton, 29; Jamemal Ray Baker, 20; and David Alexander Soloman II, 25. All three suspects were from Los Angeles. ER
