The City of Manhattan Beach will conduct a feasibility study for a new municipal pool, City Hall building and secondary fire station, the council decided unanimously at its Feb. 2 meeting.
The council had asked staff to solicit proposals for a study in November.
“The last time we gauged our infrastructure was back in the seventies,” said Mayor Mark Burton, adding that was when the previous library and City Hall were built.
The council asked staff to conduct a survey to see if residents would be receptive to a bond or other measures during the elections in November.
The proposal by Griffin Structures, which the council selected, mentioned expanding Begg Pool in Polliwog Park or building one in Marine Park as options. The “primary focus” of a new City Hall would be expanding parking, possibly underground, Burton said. And a new fire station could replace the current one on Manhattan Beach Boulevard, which was built in 1954.
Once the study is completed, the council will decide which projects, if any, to pursue. ER
