Nantucket Crossing Turns 35
David and Judy Adishian came up with the name of their store, Nantucket Crossing, from having both grown up in Massachusetts. Following an unprecedented snow storm in 1978, they decided to relocate west and chose Lunada Bay to be their new home. However, they frequently returned back east to visit Cape Cod, Nantucket Island and Martha’s Vineyard with their four children.
They opened their shop on Yarmouth Road in Lunada Bay in 1989 and a year later moved to its current location in the Bristol Farms shopping center in Rolling Hills Estates.
Nantucket Crossing is a combination general store and gift shop, and carries distinctive gifts, jewelry and table top items. As a thank you for supporting the shop for three and a half decades, the Adishians are offering the community 35% off their iconic Palos Verdes keepsake blanket (designed by Judy Adishian) and the Palos Verdes Blue White Tote through the end of May. Both items may be viewed at Nantucketcrossing.com.

Sid the Sloth Welcomed an Audience of over 1000 Guests
The Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy presented the 9th Annual Wild & Scenic Film Festival on March 3 at Dana Middle School. Over 1,000 nature fans enjoyed a special selection of 11 films about conservation, hiking, surfing, and aviation. Attendees could met Sid, a 13-year-old, two-toed live sloth. The visit was made possible through the generosity of Conservancy supporter Noel Park. Sid’s visit was inspired, “Bridging Fragments,” which explored the environmental stresses that urbanization and deforestation place on many species, including the world’s slowest mammal – the sloth.
“Sharing this film and the opportunity to see a sloth up close highlighted the value of protecting wildlife corridors, especially in developed areas, like the Palos Verdes Peninsula, where wildlife populations might otherwise be separated by developments,” said Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy Executive Director Adrienne Mohan. If you would like to meet Sid at his home in Sylmar’s Wildlife Learning Center, the Conservancy’s Earth Day Online Auction will have a special experience you can bid on at pvplc.org. The Online Auction will be open from April 1 to 2 and will include trips, vacation homes, art, jewelry and much more.
