Runners celebrate first day of winter at MB Yuletide 5K

 

More than 700 runners celebrated the Winter Solstice by participating in the Manhattan Beach Yuletide 5K on the clear, crisp evening of Dec. 21.

Matt Miller, 26, was first to cross the finish line on the out-and-back shoreline course that began and finished under the Christmas lights that adorned the Manhattan Beach Pier.

Miller’s time of 16 minutes, 39 seconds bested teenagers Chance Weston, 19, (17:58) and Andrew Dunn, 19 (17:58) who finished neck-and-neck in a sprint for second place.

Rebecca Clayton, 26, won the women’s division with a time of 20:23. Alyson Jiminez, 15, placed second at 21:03 and Michelle Greco claimed the third spot at 21:45.

Male division winners included: Theodore Berger (1-10, 19:32), Ian Irish (11-14, 18:39), Weston (15-18), Miller (19-29), Jack Rosenfeld (30-34, 19:44), Billy Crader (35-39, 18:27), Eric Seltenrich (40-44, 18:10), Matt Enright (45-49, 18:31), Peter Riordan (50-54, 22:56), Jim Newman (55-59, 21:10), Philip Marshall (60-64, 28:46), Marty Friedman (65-69, 21:56), Dick Cole (70-74, 28:29), Paul Dorr (75-79, 45:05) and Dick Windishar (80-84, 35:08).

Females winning their respective age groups were: Hayley Block (1-10, 25:09), Noah Fenton (11-14, 24:52), Jiminez (15-18), Clayton (19-29), Greco (30-34), Summer Mitamura (35-39, 24:38), Lindsay Junk (40-44, 24:08), Jodi Young (45-49, 22:49), Stacy Shourt (50-54, 24:52), Marian Drahnak (55-59, 26:50), Rita Jensen (60-64, 28:55), Maryann McGee (65-69, 40:47) and Glenna Sparks (70-74, 37:32).
