The 25th Anniversary of the Manhattan Wine Auction on Saturday night raised $1.2 million for local schools. More than 2,000 people attended the event at the Manhattan Beach Country Club, which featured 40 local restaurants and beverages served by more than 80 wineries, breweries and distilleries.
The event’s special “Paddle Raise” generated $200,000 dedicated specifically to funding “the M in STEM,” strengthening math education throughout MBUSD, in addition to the $6 million MBEF provides in grants and program support to local schools annually. The new funding will focus on the in-class experience through instructional coaching, enrichment and intervention opportunities, and more data-backed evaluation of the challenges in reaching students in math.
“The incredible show of support reflects how valuable the Manhattan Beach community feels about providing our students with the tools they need to gain confidence in math, and reinforces the impact MBEF has on the caliber of teaching and learning in the District,” said Dan Rogoff, MBEF President.
“If our students are to compete in the global economy and pursue employment opportunities in science and engineering-related fields, they must have a solid K-12 STEM education,” said Hilary Mahan, MBEF executive director. “And MATH is an important part of the STEM formula.”
Top event sponsors included American Airlines, Belkin, Chevron, Moss Adams, Sherry-Lehmann, and Wells Fargo, while the Bay Club served as an event partner.
