After winning the Southern Pacific Interscholastic Beach Volleyball League (IBVL) Championship, Mira Costa’s girls continued to excel with two teams medaling in the IBVL Pairs Championships held at Dockweiler Beach.
Mira Costa’s Skylar Caputo and Lan Nguyen defeated Heidi Dyer and Jaelyn Greene of Saddleback to capture gold medals, besting the field of 16 teams that qualified for the medal round playoffs.
Caputo and Nguyen defeated Mustang teammates Katrina Kernochan and Keala Rusher in the semifinals. Kernochan and Rusher tied for third with Oaks Christian’s Isabelle Carey and Brooke Weiner.
Also reaching the final field of 16 were Mira Costa duos of Lyndsay Chalmers/Brooke Feld and Katie Rethmeyer/Kelly Geiser along with Redondo’s Marissa Mitter and Andrea Gonzalez.
