Mira Costa girls begin campaign for fourth consecutive IBVL championship

Mira Costa’s girls beach volleybal team begins its campaign to win a fourth consecutive Interscholastic Beach Volleyball League (IBVL) title Saturday when the Mustangs play two Bay Division games at Dockweiler Beach.

Head coach Eric Fonoimoana’s program has not lost since 2012 defeating Saddleback Valley Christian 2-1 for a three-peat in 2015.

Attempting to dethrone Mira Costa will be Bay Division teams Palisades Charter, Palos Verdes, Redondo, Santa Monica.and West Torrance.

The Mustangs open their season with a 9 a.m. game against Santa Monica followed by a 10 a.m. contest against Palisades Charter

Redondo plays Palisades Charter at 9 a.m. and Palos Verdes at 11 a.m..

The IBVL has grown to include 66 varsity teams in 10 divisions and 18 junior varsity teams competing in four divisions.

The Bay JV Division includes Bishop Montgomery, Mira Costa JV, Palisades Frosh/Soph, Palisades Charter JV and Redondo.

Mira Costa also has a Frosh/Soph team that will compete in the Mission Division along with Alemany, Harvard-Westlake, Notre Dame and Palisades Charter JV..

The regular season runs through April 30 followed by playoffs beginning Thursday, May 5.
