With six first-place finishes for each of its boys and girls track and field teams, Mira Costa outscored opponents to place first at the Bay League Championships held at Mira Costa Friday evening.
According to PrepCalTrack.com., 31 elite marks were set at the meet.
Mira Costa’s girls team scored 190 points to defeat Redondo (168) and Peninsula (62). Qualifying Mustang athletes will compete in the CIF-Southern Section Division 2 prelims Saturday at Moorpark High School.
Redondo and Peninsula compete in Division 1 at Trabuco Hills High School while Palos Verdes will be at Estancia High School in Costa Mesa for the Division 3 prelims.
Mira Costa’s girls team is led by Shante Robinson who won league titles in the 100 hurdles (14.14 seconds), 300 hurdles (42.48) and ran the anchor leg for the Mustang’s first-place 4×400 relay team (3:58.54).
Other girls winning league championships for Mira Costa were two-time titlist Melia Chittenden in the 1600 (5:04.88) and 3200 (10:56.82) and Morgan Girard in the high jump (5-00.00).
Redondo had five girls take home title led by Kennedy Williams who won the 100 (12.20), 200 (25.31) and was a member of the championship 4×100 relay team (48.13).
Pierson Wodzynski captured the 400 (58.94) and Kaitlin Heri won the pole vault (12-08) for the Sea Hawks.
In boys competition, Mira Costa tallied 182 points to defeat Redondo (151) and Palos Verdes (61).
The Mustangs had first-place finishes by their 4×100 and 4×400 relay teams (41.38 and 3:26.12), Andre Nieto in the 400 (51.32), Caleb Llorin in the 3200 (9:20.28), Jonah Tavai in the shot put (51-08) and Matt DiSandro in the discus (121-02).
Redondo boys also claimed six titles led by multiple winners Anthony Zuanich in the 100 (10.91) and 200 (22.35) and Jordan Jackson in the long jump (19-09.75) and triple jump (43-10).
Ethan Comeaux won the 1600 (4:18.34).
Sea Hawk pole vaulter Tate Curran continued his impressive performance this season, setting a personal best 17-feet, 2 inches to win the competition by more than three feet.
