The South Bay Dozen, organized by brothers Mike and Brian Murphy and fellow Los Angeles County lifeguards, drew 198 competitors at Torrance Beach on Saturday.
The dozen events included races for prone and stand-up paddleboards, dories, surf skis, swimming and running. Competitors ranged from 2000 Olympics swimmer Chad Carvin, Molokai stand-up paddleboard champion Danny Ching and New Zealand SUP pro Annabelle Anderson to recreational paddlers and swimmers, as well as Los Angeles County Junior Lifeguards.
The event is hosted by Hennessey’s Taverns and benefits the Jimmy Miller Foundation, which provides ocean therapy for military veterans and troubled kids. For more information visit JimmyMillerFoundation.org.
