In fitting fashion, girls on the Mira Costa track team confirmed why their host event that draws more than 200 teams is named the Mustang Relays.

Highlighted by a near meet-record performance in the 4×400, the Lady Mustangs dominated the relay events, winning the distance medley (12:33.38), 4×100 (50.22), 4×1600 (21:38.68) and 4×400 (4:04.50).
In their win in the 4×400 event, the Mustangs were only one-tenth of a second from the meet record set by Mira Costa in 1999. Juniors Ashlee Dotson, Charlotte and Clair Barnett and sophomore Taylor Foland sprinted for a time of 4:04.5.
Mustang relay teams also finished third in the 4×800 behind Beverly Hills and El Segundo and third in the 4×200 behind Palos Verdes and Crescenta Valley.
Mira Costa’s Acacia Moore placed second in the 100 low hurdles (16.48) and third in the 300 low hurdles (49.59) while Dotson placed third in the 100 (12.82).
Although Redondo sent it distance runners to the Azusa Pacific Meet of Champions, the Sea Hawks enjoyed success in jumping events. Hayley Miller won the triple jump (35-0.5) and placed second in the long jump (16-10.75).
Redondo’s Aundrea Yancy finished second in high jump with a mark of 5 feet.
Palos Verdes’ Keiko Hector was named the Female Athlete of the Meet after winning the 100 low hurdles (16.27), high jump (5-2) and ran the third leg on the Sea King’s winning 4×200 relay team. Hector also placed second in the 300 low hurdles (46.70).
In boys competition, Redondo won the 4×400 relay with a time of 3:31.94 and Sea Hawks Christian Bassman placed second in the 100 (11.12) and Taylor Bongiovanni finished third in the discus with a toss of 129.04.

Mira Costa’s distance medley team placed second with a time of 10:51.29 while Mustangs Brett Douville finished second in the 1,600 (4:27.70) before running the anchor mile in the distance medley where Mira Costa placed second behind Crescenta Valley with a time of 10:51.29.
Other Mira Costa athletes finishing in the top three were Ryan Morrow, who placed second in the pole vault (14-6) and J.R. Tavai, who was runner-up in the shot put with a toss of 53.01 feet.
Servite’s Malik Felton was selected as the Male Athlete of the Meet. The senior won the 100 with a mark of 11.08 and helped in relay teams win the 4×100 and 4×200 events.
Redondo had a strong performance at the Azusa Pacific Meet of Champions highlighted by Lyndsey Mull who placed third in the girls 800 (2:14) and 3,200 (10:45).
Chadwick’s Jaye Buchbinder took top honors in the 800 with a mark of 2:11 and Redondo runners Kayla Ferron (2:17) and Cara Ulizio (2:18) placed 8th and 9th, respectively.
In the 3,200, Buchbinder finished 4th at 10:45, ahead of Redondo’s Rachel Bush (5th, 10:47), Mira Costa’s Aryn Foland (7th, 10:50) and Redondo’s Laura O’Neill (10:54).
In the boys 800m competition, Redondo’s Evan Malone and Dezhan Bland finished 5th and 6th, respectively. ER
