The Bay League had a dismal showing in girls water polo as all three entrants were eliminated in their first games of the CIF Southern Section/Ford Division 1 Championships.

Mira Costa captured a share of the Bay League title with a 12-6 victory over rival Redondo and, after splitting its league series with co-champion Palos Verdes, was selected as the Bay League’s No. 1 team earning head coach Jon Reichardt’s team a home game in the first round.
But the Mustangs saw their season end Wednesday with a 13-6 loss to No. 8 Edison (17-11) who had advanced to play Mira Costa after defeating Northwood 15-6 in a wild-card game Tuesday.
Marisa Purcell scored four goals and Emily Milstead and Sara Booth had one apiece for Mira Costa which finished with a 17-7 record.
Defending CIF Division 2 champion Palos Verdes (16-11) also couldn’t get on track, losing 13-2 at No. 6 Santa Barbara (20-8) in the first round.
Redondo (13-10) earned a wild card berth and traveled to take on No. 10 San Marcos Tuesday. Unfortunately for the Sea Hawks, they were on the short end of a 16-4 score.
Three South Bay teams earned seeds in Division 6, led by Ocean League champion El Segundo (25-6) who earned a first round bye as the No. 5 seed. The Eagles defeated Poly/Pasadena 6-2 in the second round on Thursday before eliminating No. 4 La Quinta 10-9 in overtime in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
In Wednesday’s semifinal contest, Colette Gulick scored five goals for El Segundo but it wasn’t enough to upset top-seeded Warren (24-7) who defeated the Eagles 11-5. Warren advances to play second-seeded Malibu (23-8) in the championship game to be played at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at William Woollett, Jr. Aquatics Center in Irvine.
Prep League champion Chadwick (21-7) was seeded sixth and also was awarded a bye in the first round. The Dolphins won a shootout it their first game, beating Beaumont 13-10 but fell to No. 3 Cerritos 9-6 on Saturday.
Torrance (15-15) finished second in the Ocean League and defeated Webb 9-4 to reach the second round for the first time in school history. The Tartars lost at No. 7 Palm Springs 10-7 on Thursday.
