
Professional beach volleyball players will be competing for a prize purse of $75,000 when the National Volleyball League holds the West Coast Championships Thursday through Saturday, Aug. 6-8 on the north side of the Hermosa Beach Pier.
The tournament includes a 16-team draw per gender and will feature Southern California professional players two-time Olympian Mark Williams, Travis Schoonover, Jon Mesko, Skyler McCoy, Chelsea Hayes, Jennifer Snyder, Molly Menard and Alicia Zamparelli-Flavia..
“Hermosa Beach is truly the home of beach volleyball and we’re excited to welcome back the NVL for the 2015 season,” said Kimberlee MacMullan, President/CEO of the Hermosa Beach Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau. “The league does a tremendous job of putting on festive, family-friendly tournaments while connecting their world class athletes with the Hermosa community.”
NVL will also host a 4-Man Co-ed adult tournament on Saturday adjacent to the pro tournament.
The next generation of beach volleyball stars can acquire tips of the game at the “Clinic with the Pros” on Friday.
Established in 2010 by former professional standout Albert Hannemann, the NVL was built by players with the purpose of creating a sustainable future for pro beach volleyball in the U.S.
Along with its eight professional tournaments in 2015, the NVL features the grassroots NVL RIZE series and the Club Med NVL Beach Volleyball Academies.
“Beach volleyball isn’t just a sport but a way of life,” Hannemann said. “It’s important to teach fundamentals to players at an early age and provide them an opportunity to improve with top-quality coaching and competition.”
Pro Qualifying matches begin Thursday Aug. 6 at 9 a.m. Friday’s action begins at 9 a.m. with Main Draw matches. The NVL RIZE “Clinic with the Pros” will take place from 2-3 p.m. followed by an autograph session until 3:30 p.m.
On Saturday, Aug. 8, competition begins at 8 a.m. with professional men’s and women’s quarterfinal matches. The 4-man Co-ed Tournament begins also starts at 8 a.m.
Pro Women’s Finals are tentatively scheduled for 2:30 p.m. followed by the Men’s Finals at 4 p.m. The tournament will be streamed live for free on the NVL Network.
