Jane Diehl knows how to be president. She brings to bear nine years of school board knowledge, a thorough understanding of RBUSD practices, and the ability to move a six member team briskly along. But because of term limits, her time is up.
Her successor, Anita Avrick, was voted and approved for the top position at last Tuesdayβs School Board meeting.
βSheβs up for the job,β said Diehl. βAll will be good.β
Laura Emdee was voted as vice president, replacing Todd Loewenstein, whose second term also ends next year.
βThe reason they gave the positions to us is that theyβre leaving in a year,β said Emdee. βWe have to develop and understand whatβs going on to make us more effective.β
Avrick is not focused on making any immediate changes. She said she would concentrate on this transitional period β the RBUSD school board has been the most stable elected body in the South Bay in terms of lack of turnover β
and learning all she can while she has experienced board members by her side.
βI donβt think the president has any more power than anybody else on the board,β Avrick said.
One goal Avrick did set was to make sure everybody on the board has the chance to lead discussions and be involved in learning how the board works.
