Pedestrian seriously injured in late night collision with a car

A man was seriously injured early Friday morning when he was hit by a car while crossing a street outside the crosswalk. According to police reports, the driver of the car has been charged with driving while intoxicated.

The incident occurred at about 1:26 a.m. near the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway and Herondo Street.

“It looks like the pedestrian was not in the crosswalk and was crossing the road, running,” said Sgt. Shawn Freeman of the Redondo Beach Police Department. “He apparently dodged one vehicle and then was struck by a second vehicle, then landed on the pavement and hit his head.”

Drivers reported still seeing blood on the pavement during morning rush hour Friday.

The injured man’s name was not released. Lee Aokuso, 26, from Norwalk, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. RBPD traffic investigators are still determining if any other charges will be filed. ER
