Skating by the Sea

Daily tree lighting 

Celebrate the season with Terranea Resort’s daily tree lighting at the front driveway fountain. Through December, 5:30 p.m. 100 Terranea Way, Rancho Palos Verdes.

Free COVID-19 testing

Marymount California University offers free COVID-19 testing every Tuesday from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. outside the cafe. The address is 30800 Palos Verdes Drive East, Rancho Palos Verdes. The clinic is open to the public. Walk-ins welcome. To book an appointment, go to book.curative.com/sites/33500.

Nativity exhibit

Mary & Joseph Retreat Center’s annual Nativity Exhibit, “Mixed Company – Visitors to the Creche,” is on display through Dec. 21. The hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Free admission. Community Art Show

This time each year, the Palos Verdes Library District holds a Community Art Show, featuring professional and amateur local artists of all ages.

“Wabi Sabi” art exhibit

The Redondo Beach Art Group’s exhibit, “Wabi Sabi,” is on display at the Malaga Cove Library, 2400 Vía Campesina, Palos Verdes Estates, through Jan. 10. Wabi sabi is the Japanese view and philosophy of finding beauty in every aspect of imperfection in nature, and in things that are imperfect, impermanent and incomplete. For more information, go to pvld.org/artinourlibrary.

Book sale

The PVP Library District holds its Main Branch used book sale today through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. There are approximately 50,000 books for sale at this location. The books in the garage are available for purchase on the honor system whenever the library is open. The Book Sale room may be open to the public when volunteers are working. Enter the parking garage off Silver Spur Drive.

Bookmaking workshop

At this workshop, artist Ginger Doner will show the process of designing, creating and completing a simple book. A handmade book, sometimes referred to as an artist’s book, can be inspired by images, rhythm, shape or form, movement, interactivity, memory, relationship of materials and structure to content and related to other book arts used in the making of books, such as printmaking, letterpress, calligraphy, paper marbling, drawing and painting. 9 a.m.-noon, at the Mary & Joseph Retreat Center in Rancho Palos Verdes. The Palos Verdes Peninsula Chamber of Commerce will hold an Economic Forecast Summit at 7:30 a.m. at Terranea Resort. The keynote speaker is Christopher Thornberg, founding partner at Beacon Economics. His talk is titled, “The Post-COVID World:  Over the Hump or Overstimulated?” Breakfast and the keynote will be followed by choice of breakout sessions on investment outlook, tax changes in 2022 and the federal policy agenda.
