How to Care for Aging Skin by Dr. Lance Chapman, Board Certified Dermatologist
I often get the question “How can I diminish the signs of aging?” In order to optimally care for aging skin, establishing healthy skin habits is of utmost importance. The following recommendations are critical to maintain healthy skin:
- Avoid the sun between 10 am and 2 pm when the sun’s UV rays are the strongest. When you do go outside, wear wide-brimmed hats.
- Use sunscreen that is broad-spectrum, SPF 30 or higher.
- Moisturizer and lip balm should be applied every morning to help trap moisture and hydrate your skin.
- Stop smoking and get plenty of sleep each night.
- Consider anti-aging skin care products, specifically those with antioxidants and tretinoin.
- Consider Botox (R) to soften lines and wrinkles and soft tissue filler to augment volume.
