Soccer: Open to boys and girls ages 6-9, the Fram Skills Academy will be teaching basic soccer skills during its eight-week session (one hour per week) at four locations beginning the week of July 6. Tennis: The 3rd  annual Jester & Pharley Phund Benefit Doubles Tennis Tournament will be held at Alta Vista Park, 715 Julia St., Redondo Beach on Saturday, July 11 from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Proceeds will support the donation of the late David Saltzman’s book “The Jester Has Lost His Jingle” to children being treated for cancer. Entry fee is $45/players and includes lunch, photos and giveaways. A raffle and silent auction will also be held. To register, visit thejester.org.

 

Beach Volleyball: Olympic silver medalist Mike Dodd and US Jr. National Team coach Patty Dodd are offering beach volleyball camps for boys and girls ages 8-17 at Rosecrans Ave. in Manhattan Beach. Three Monday through Thursday camps are available the weeks of July 6 (Patty Dodd), July 20 (Patty Dodd) and Aug. 10 (Mike Dodd) from 2:30 – 5 p.m. each day. Cost is $220 per camp or $60/day. The Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) will hold the second of four Marine Summer Series tournaments on Tuesday, July 7 at the Marine Street courts in Manhattan Beach. The event features Girls 16U, 14U and 12U divisions. Entry fee is $55 per team. The series continues July 14 and 21. For more information, visit auubeach.org.

 

The 17th Annual BarryBob Invitational, a 4-person tournament and beach volleyball oldtimers day, will take place Saturday, July 11 at 9-4 The Strand, Manhattan Beach. Kids ages 10-14 (not yet in high school) can register for the 5th Junior BarryBob by contacting Tim Walmer, walmy1@aol.com.

 

The 4-on-4 Co-ed Beach Volleyball League begins Monday, July 6. Games will be north of the Hermosa Beach Pier from 6:15-8 p.m. Maximum of 40 teams. Basketball: Coach Dave Miller, a current NBA and College basketball analyst, has announced his MVP CAMP summer basketball dates to be held at Aviation Sports Complex 1935 Manhattan Beach Blvd Redondo Beach. The Monday through Friday sessions run from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. July 6-10 and Aug. 3-7. Both are open to boys and girls ages 5 -14. Online application is available at mvpcamp.com.
