Semi-automatic handgun found

On June 7 at 3:45 a.m., a night clerk restocking merchandise at the Vons Supermarket began readjusting items on a shelf. According to police, the clerk reached behind the merchandise and took hold of what he thought was a shelf bracket. He brought the item out and discovered it was actually a semi-automatic handgun. The clerk called his supervisor, who immediately called police. The weapon had three rounds in the magazine. No suspicious activity was observed by the employees prior to the incident.

Shoe hold-up

A resident returned home from Fox Hills Mall after purchasing two pairs of Nike shoes on June 9 around 9:30 p.m. As the resident exited the driver’s side of the vehicle he observed a silver BMW park next to him. According to police, a suspect exited the front passenger door of the vehicle, grabbed the victim from behind, put a handgun to his cheek and demanded his shoes. A passenger that was in the front seat of the victim’s vehicle, exited the vehicle and tried to run to a residence. Another suspect emerged from the suspect vehicle, grabbed the passenger who tried to run and held him in a headlock until the other suspect took possession of the shoes. The suspects released the victims, entered the suspect vehicle and fled the area. “I’ve been here for 14 years,” said Sgt. Mario Fizulich, “and I can’t think of another time that kind of crime has happened. Somebody really wanted those shoes.” The suspects remain outstanding at this time.

Carwash theft

On June 9 at 5:50 p.m., the Hermosa Beach Police Department broadcast that a vehicle had just been stolen from a carwash in their city. Two Redondo Beach patrol officers found the car in the area of Artesia Blvd. and Kingsdale Ave. after a traffic stop was initiated on the vehicle. According to RBPD, the suspect was taken into custody for charges related to the stolen vehicle. Additional follow-up revealed that the suspect was involved in the theft of a vehicle from a local auto dealership as well. Charges are pending against the suspect.

Mall struggle

On June 10 at 6:20 p.m., a patrol officer responded to the South Bay Bus Terminal to assist Galleria Mall security with an uncooperative subject. According to police, the officer attempted to talk to the individual, who became increasingly uncooperative and would not give his name or listen to the officer’s commands. The subject attempted to leave and walk away .When the officer attempted to stop the individual he took a fighting stance and a struggle ensued. The suspect was taken into custody for charges related to his actions and an outstanding arrest warrant. ER
