Fire! Fire!

On Jan. 3 around 2:10 a.m., citizens citizens reported a fire in the area of Pacific Coast Highway and Beryl St. According to a release from the police department, members of the Police and Fire Departments located a small fire in a dumpster near the businesses at 413 N. PCH. The fire damaged the exterior of the building but was extinguished quickly. The Fire Department is currently investigating this fire as suspicious in nature.

 

Concrete end

At 2:59 a.m., on Jan. 4, officers responded to a traffic collision at Lilienthal Park in north Redondo Beach. According to police, an investigation revealed that a vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed southbound Lilienthal and failed to negotiate a right turn at Fisk Ln. The vehicle collided with the concrete posts positioned at the entrance to the park. The 18 year old driver was not injured in the collision but was arrested for driving under the influence of an intoxicant.

 

Peddling, biting burglar

At approximately 12:45 a.m, on Jan. 6, a resident heard loud noises coming from their garage area in the 600 Blk of S. Prospect Ave. According to a report, as the resident exited his residence he saw a woman pushing his bicycle and carry various items that belonged to him. When he confronted the suspect she dropped the items and fled. Responding officers located and subsequently arrested her for theft and vandalism.

During the booking process of the suspect she became combative and had to be restrained. As the officers and jail staff attempted to control her, the woman severely bit the jailer’s hand. The jailer was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The suspect was subsequently subdued and charged with the assault on the jailer in addition to the original crimes.

 

Sharp ends

At approximately 9:11 p.m., on Jan. 8, three suspects entered the business at 403 Torrance Blvd. As one suspect brandished a knife the other two suspects collected items from shelves. The employee attempted to intervene but the suspect with the knife slashed his clothing. The suspects dropped the merchandise and fled the store. The responding units searched but were unable to locate any of the suspects. The attempted robbery is under investigation.
