Power outage takes out light at major intersection

manhattan beach policeTraffic was backed up at the intersection of Manhattan Beach Boulevard and Sepulveda Boulevard for about three hours Monday morning after the light stopped working.

The power outage was caused by the “extreme weather,” according to Manhattan Beach Police Community Affairs Officer Stephanie Martin.

Police sent a Nixle alert at 6:54 a.m. saying that the traffic light was flashing red in all directions

and warning people to avoid the area. CalTrans, which controls Sepulveda Boulevard, had been notified.

At 10:23 a.m., another alert said that traffic was again flowing.

Public safety was busy answering “calls for service” because of the rain and high winds, according to Martin.

“When staffing allowed, they were deployed to MBB/Sepulveda and Rosecrans/Sepulveda to help move traffic through the intersections,” she said. ER
