Whistling robber

A resident came to the police station on Wednesday, Feb. 27 and reported he was walking from his car to his residence in the 400 block of Prospect Avenue when a male suspect pointed a handgun at him and demanded he surrender his personal property. The suspect whistled and a second suspect emerged from the bushes and they left on foot. The victim entered his residence and didn’t come out until the daylight hours because he was concerned that the suspects were still in the area.

Terrorist threat

RBPD received a 911 call from a Redondo Union High School staff member requesting assistance on Wednesday, Feb. 27.  Officers determined that two students had engaged in physical combat that required the intervention of multiple members of school staff to control. One of the students, an adult, left the school with a family member. Further investigation revealed the adult student made verbal and electronic threats. Officers arrested the suspect in the City of Lomita on suspicion of terrorist threats.

Tire iron assault

Officers were dispatched to a family fight on Tuesday, Feb. 26 in the 300 block of the Esplanade. The victim (father), suspect (daughter) and her 2-year-old child, along with the suspect’s mother and another sibling, were homeless and living out of one vehicle. Suspect and victim were engaged in a verbal argument when the suspect allegedly retrieved a tire iron and hit the victim with it on the back. Children and Family Services responded to the police station and took custody of the suspect’s daughter, and found temporary placement for the victim, his wife, and their son.

Saved by the gas gauge

A resident told police he parked his Honda Accord in front of his residence on Pearl St. on Friday, March 1. The next morning found it missing. The victim told police one of his relatives, walking to work, found his stolen vehicle parked on the street. The victim said at the time his vehicle was stolen it was low on gas. Officers contacted residents where the car was found and located video footage of the suspects parking the car on the street.
