A 24-hour manhunt resulted in the arrest of a 53-year-old Hawthorne man accused of stabbing a business associate in the parking lot of an Artesia Boulevard business last Wednesday.

Elar Camacho was arrested Thursday and charged with attempted murder. He was held in the Redondo Beach Police Department jail on a $1,030,000 bail.

According to police reports, a dispute arose between Camacho and a 40-year-old Lawndale resident on the 2700 block of Artesia Blvd., behind a business that neither man was involved with.

“The victim and the suspect were known to each other through business dealings – not illegal business or anything like that, but just doing business,” said RBPD Sgt. Shawn Freeman. “There was a business dispute and the suspect stabbed the victim twice in the abdomen area.”

The suspect left the scene and the victim went inside a nearby business, where two friends immediately took him to the hospital, according to police reports. The hospital notified the RBPD, who searched for Camacho all through that night, going to places investigations indicated Camacho was known to frequent. Finally, the next day a witness called the Torrance Police Department and reported seeing Camacho at the Roadium Open Air Market in Torrance. Torrance officers arrested Camacho and turned him over to RBPD.

The victim’s identity was not released due to privacy concerns. Police said he was in stable condition.

“It was significant,” Freeman said. “The wounds will require some surgery and stitches, but he is stable and going to recover. They weren’t just minor flesh wounds.”

The Los Angeles District Attorney filed attempted murder charges on Tuesday.
