King’s Harbor Church
Each year, Redondo Beach churches join together to celebrate Easter with a sunrise service at Veteran’s Park. This Sunday will be the 58th anniversary of the tradition music and inspirational messages.
Proceeds from Sunday’s services will benefit the Redondo Beach Domestic Violence Victims Advocacy Program (RBPD DVVA Program). The group’s director Ericka Sazo Gonzalez received the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisor’s Woman of the Year Award last week.
Among the people the program has helped are a mother who came to the Redondo
Beach Police Department in 2012 to turn in her husband’s unregistered handgun. She told the police that she felt that her life and the lives of her two sons were in danger. Police introduced the mother to Gonzalez.
Today, three-and-a-half years later, the mother volunteers for the support group.
“It changed my life and I am very grateful,” she said.
Victim advocates and Redondo police officers have worked together since 1996 to provide emergency services and resources to thousands of victims, twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.
The RBPD DVVA program is sponsored by the R.B.P.D. and Beach Cities Health District.
