Manhattan Beach police on Wednesday arrested a registered sex offender for allegedly harassing a 14-year-old female student on two separate occasions near Mira Costa High School in Manhattan Beach.
The 30-year-old Redondo Beach man, whose identity is being withheld until the completion of the investigation, was arrested on charges of “annoying or molesting children, and stalking,” according to MBPD. He was previously arrested in 2005 near Mira Costa for indecent exposure.
The victim recently made a report to police about a male adult who after school lurked around the intersection of Peck and Nelson Avenues, staring and making her feel uncomfortable, according to police. This report prompted MBPD on Monday to stop a vehicle on Peck Avenue near Mira Costa matching the description of the suspect’s vehicle, a gold/brown 1999 Chevy sedan.
MBPD detectives determined that the man in the vehicle was the victim’s harasser, according to police.
Although MBPD does not believe there are additional victims, they are encouraging parents to speak with their children and ask if they ever felt victimized by this suspect.
