Homeless call for service
On August 28, on the 2300 block of Nelson Ave., an RBPD patrol officer responded to a call for service related to a transient camping in a parking lot. The officer was able to develop a rapport with the subject, and began to assist her in relocating her property and helping to locate a motel that she could afford. After several attempts the homeless woman was placed in a motel for the night and notification was made to outside agencies that may be able to offer further and continuing assistance.
Robbery
On August 30, at approximately 1:19 a.m., two guests at the Hilton Garden Inn on Marine Ave. were in the parking lot, charging their Tesla when they were confronted by two men pointing handguns at them. The suspects demanded the victims’ money, jewelry and purse. The suspects fled toward Marine Ave. The victims drove their vehicles to the 20300 block of Hawthorne Blvd. where they reported the crime to Torrance Police. The suspects were not immediately located.
Burglary
On August 30, at approximately 2:45 a.m., a suspect was observed riding a bicycle without a headlight in the 500 Blk. of the Esplanade. Upon his detention another suspect was located nearby in a vehicle. The vehicle contained bicycle and items believed to be stolen. Officers were able to contact an owner of some of the property who indicated her vehicle had been broken into while it was parked in a secured parking structure in the 600 block of S. Catalina Ave. The primary suspect admitted to breaking into three different locations on the Esplanade and stealing bicycles and other property. Both suspects were arrested.
Assault and burglary
On August 30, at approximately 1601 hours, an officer observed a male run across Pacific Coast Highway from the area of the CVS at 316 S. PCH. The male fled the area and was followed by a citizen who saw the same suspicious activity. CVS confirmed a theft had occurred and possibly an assault or robbery. The suspect was detained and identified as being involved in a theft and assault at the store. He was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and burglary.
Residential Burglary
On September 4, at approximately 6:50 p.m., officers responded to a report of a residential burglary in the 2400 Blk. of Spurgeon Ln. The resident reported that they had left the location at 1 p.m and returned at 6:30 p.m., discovering that unknown suspects had pried open a back window and unlocked a sliding glass door to gain entry into the residence. Once inside the unknown suspects ransacked the location and stole $11,450 worth of jewelry. CSI responded to process the crime scene.
