Redondo Beach woman’s kidnapper found dead in Torrance motel bathroom from self-inflicted gunshot wound

Kidnapping suspect Timothy Thomas, 27, was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the bathroom of a Torrance Super 8 Motel this afternoon after police and SWAT officers had cordoned off the area to search for him.

Police say Thomas kidnapped his victim, a 22-year-old South Redondo Beach woman, from her home on the 900 block of Carnelian Street this morning at 3:20 a.m, forcing her into his gold Honda Accord at gunpoint before renting a room at the Super 8 Motel on the 2300 block of Sepulveda Boulevard.

The victim was able to escape from Thomas and alerted a motel clerk of her situation, according to Redondo Beach Police Lieutenant Joe Hoffman.

“We had an opportunity to speak with the victim and she is unharmed,” Hoffman said.
