Mistaking the accelerator for the brake, an elderly woman drove into the storefront of Xi Clothing in Redondo Beach on Monday afternoon.

The woman, whose name police are withholding, was driving down the parking aisle and kept going, shattering the store’s display window and sending glass shards flying into a bystander’s shin.

“It’s a miracle nobody got seriously hurt, though,” said shopper Amanda Page.

“I’d just gone into the dressing room and I heard screeching and a car hit another car – I thought, ‘Oh, that’s a bad accident,’ but the noises just kept going and going and going. She hit the side of one car, she hit Xi, she hit a pillar and another car and another.

“She would’ve gone straight through Xi if the impact hadn’t stopped her.”

The woman is not being charged with any offense, but her driving privileges are being reevaluated.

Xi is located at 415 Pacific Coast Highway, in the same shopping plaza as Whole Foods.
