Hayes Honea, a 5-foot-6 senior defensive specialist/libero for Redondo’s State Championship girls volleyball team was named to the 2014 PrepVolleyball.com High School Volleyball Academic All Americans First Team.

Redondo coach Tommy Chaffins calls Honea “future CEO or CFO” in front of her Sea Hawk teammates, not just because her senior leadership (and 268 digs and 74 aces) helped the team wins its first California Division I title in 2014.

Honea is a brilliant student, whose 4.7 weighted GPA ranks her fourth in a class of 618 students. Bound for Amherst College, Honea is an AP Scholar with Distinction who is taking five AP classes this year (10 total). She was named Honors Biology Student of the Year, won a Society of Women Engineers Award as a junior and was the first female from Redondo selected as an intern at Boeing this past summer.

Hayes is an active member of the Jimmy Miller Memorial Foundation and currently serves as President of the RUHS Chapter. She also provides academic tutoring to freshman and sophomores in Algebra, Biology, Geometry and Chemistry throughout the school year.
