Following a week with no matches, Redondo quickly shook the rust off sweeping Westlake in the first round of the 16-team CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoffs.

After dropping its season-opening match, Westlake entered the postseason with 33 straight wins but second seeded Redondo (33-2) easily eliminated the visiting Warriors 25-21, 25-13, 25-16.

Redondo hosted South Coast League champion and seventh-ranked San Juan Hills (17-7) in the quarterfinals Wednesday. The winner will advance to play the Marymount-Foothill winner in the semis on Saturday.

The first match against Westlake was touch-and-go until Jasmine Davis served back-to-back aces to give the Sea Hawks a 15-13 lead and one they would not relinquish the rest of the night.

Davis led Redondo with 10 kills while Laila Ricks and Kami Miner recorded nine and eight, respectively.

While Redondo was enjoying its victory, Bay League runner-up and eighth-seeded Mira Costa saw its season come to a close with a 25-20, 25-20, 25-23 loss at No. 9 Long Beach Poly.

Memphis Glasgow led the Mustangs with nine kills and Malia Yuhi contributed two aces in the loss.

In Division 2, the Bay League’s third team Palos Verdes (20-12) lost to second-seeded Corona del Mar (25-11), who had a first-round bye, in the second round Saturday.

In Division 3, South Torrance (22-14) swept visiting Louisville before edging host Glendora, the fifth-ranked team in the division. The Spartans hosted No. 9 Culver City in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.

In Division 4, third-seeded Bishop Montgomery (20-12) swept Gahr and Mayfair and hosted No. 6 Alta Loma on Wednesday.

In Division 5, No. 7 Vistamar (26-0) swept Pioneer and Woodcrest Christian (19-8). The team travelled to face Viewpoint, who knocked off second-seeded Hemet, on Wednesday.
