A man suspected of check fraud was arrested after a short pursuit that culminated in his surrender and arrest from a dumpster.

On Wednesday, September 2, Jonathan Interiano of Los Angeles, attempted to pass bad checks at Citibank, 415 Pacific Coast Highway. An alert teller noticed the fake and contacted the Redondo Beach Police Department. Officers arrived at the same time Interiano got to his vehicle and, according to reports, led the officers on a short chase before jumping out of his car near the intersection of Broadway and Emerald Street.

With the assistance of a K9 unit, Redondo Police were able to narrow down his location to the interior of a dumpster on the 400 block of Emerald, according to Sgt. Shawn Freeman.

“Officers were making announcements, zeroing in on trash cans, with dogs roaming around, saying ‘we know you’re in the dumpster — come out, or we’re sending the dogs to find you,’” Freeman said.

Interiano surrendered shortly after the announcement from police, and was taken into custody.

A passenger in the vehicle was detained at the scene, but following an interview was not considered to be a suspect, and released.
