Bay League champion Redondo had its hopes for a CIF title quashed Thursday when the Sea Hawks lost a heartbreaking extra-inning CIF Southern Section Division 3 quarterfinal game at La Serna Thursday afternoon.

Despite holding an early 2-0 lead, Redondo could not bring home runners in scoring position later in the game, eventually losing to second-seeded La Serna 2-3 in 12 innings.

A one-out double and single to left field set up a close play at the plate, but La Serna pinch runner Jocelyn Cebedo beat the throw for the dramatic win.

La Serna (24-6) advances to Tuesday semifinals when they will travel to Bishop Amat. Tenth-ranked Redondo finished the season with a 22-8 record.

Redondo jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning after Allison Betty singles and Morgan Moczygemba was hit by a pitch. A groundout advanced the runners to second and third and when Samantha Pech reached first base on a throwing error, both runners scored.

La Serna tied the game in the third inning but the Sea Hawks had opportunities to pull ahead stranding a runner on third with one out in the seventh inning and runners on second and third with two out in the 12th.

Betty had three of Redondo’s seven hits and pitcher Kat Ung surrendered eight hits while striking out eight in the loss.

In Division 4, third-seeded Torrance (25-9) advanced to the semifinals with a 2-1 win over visiting Santa Monica. The Tartars will travel to second-seeded Dos Pueblos on Tuesday.

Jade Arslanian set a school home-run record belting her 10th of the season to put Torrance on top 2-1 in the fourth inning.

CeCe Da Costa’s home run had tied the score 1-1. The two long balls were all Torrance ace Marissa Moreno needed as the junior recorded 16 strikeouts giving her a school-record 243 in only 137 innings this season.

El Segundo (24-8), who had upset fourth-seeded North Torrance to reach the Division 4 quarterfinals, lost to host Ramona 4-3 in 10 innings on Thursday.

In Division 6, Chadwick (16-4) had its season come to an end with a 6-0 loss to second-seeded Paraclete.
