Karen Komatinsky
Manhattan Beach Education Foundation member Karen Komatinsky (left) is congratulated on being sworn in as an interim member of the Manhattan Beach Unified School Board at a special meeting last Wednesday. Komatinsky replaces former board member Amy Howorth, until a general election in November. Howorth resigned earlier this year after being elected to City Council. “Over the past few years, you’ve let me stand on your shoulders and reach high,” Komatinsky said. “I do this because I believe in public education and in doing what’s right for our kids.” Photo by Andrea Ruse

Hermosa Kiwanis President and cancer survivor Adrienne Slaughter is scheduled to be the keynote speaker of the event, which will begin at 8 a.m. Closing ceremonies will be held at 8 a.m. Sunday morning.
