Sales tax not popular with council candidates

Hermosa Beach Planning Commissioner and city council candidate Rob Saeman (right)  expresses his opposition to the .75 cent local sales tax, which the current council voted unanimously to place on the Nov. 8 general election ballot. Of the eight council candidates who participated in Wednesday night’s debate at The Beach House, only incumbent Raymond Jackson, and Rita Gervace expressed support for the tax. Jackson pointed out that the city relied on a one-time, $4 million federal grant to balance this year’s budget. Wednesday’s debate was sponsored by the Hermosa Chamber of Commerce.
